Best ad I’ve seen for a while

Making good TV commercials isn’t easy. If it was, as my first creative director used to say, everyone would be doing it. Part of the reason is that even if you manage to come up with a great script, there are a million things that can go wrong before the spot hits the airwaves.

And prior that, your attempts to win a D&AD gold can be scuppered by the very fact that you are working on a campaign for a bank. There have been some decent bank campaigns in the last few years, but there have been many more that aren’t; I have written about some examples of the latter on this blog.

With that in mind, I feel obliged to draw attention to this spot from the newly rebranded Lloyds Bank.

A lovely script, beautifully shot, with a great performance on the VO (it could have gone very wrong here) that managed to make the members of my family highlight a variety of favourite bits. From a professional perspective, I know how difficult it is to try and turn such a vanilla proposition in a homogenous market into a lovely TV commercial. It’s very difficult. Well done to all at RKYC/Y&R.
