The new HereO

The launch of HereO, a child location GPS watch set to revolutionise the safety of children and parental peace of mind. The colourful and fun website cleverly masks the deeply rooted issues here, it can be argued that fear is being used to sell this product but it is know to be a very effective and persuasive marketing tool. In this case, the product is clearly providing solution for an existing fear – it is not manufacturing a new fear. Of course, the ethical line is very fine. In theory, young children shouldn’t need to be tracked, they should either be in school or with an adult but I guess you can never be too cautious, right? When the time comes, I will be a parent in a very digital generation and products such as the HereO are already appealing to me. I see it as a product that aims to ease parental stress – be it on a daily basis or just during holidays/picnics where children have been known to wander away. Here’s some food for thought – In the UK, a child goes missing every 3 minutes. R x
